Why leech and trigger setups fail

Check who deals the damage, what the modifier applies to, and what can trigger.

Follow the source of the hit

Ordinary leech recovers the entity that hits. A totem’s hit is not your hit; minions also have their own damage and recovery. Damage over time does not itself create ordinary hit-based leech. Read the exact modifier rather than relying on the character sheet’s aggregate number.

The wording narrows the eligible damage

Attack damage, spell damage and physical attack damage are different conditions. If physical damage is converted to elemental damage, only the remaining physical portion satisfies physical-only leech.

The Totem Mastery that redirects leech to you specifically covers physical attack damage dealt by your totems. It is not a general fix for spell totems or fully converted elemental damage. Even eligible leech is subject to recovery limits and prevention effects.

Check the trigger as well as the links

Cast when Damage Taken supports eligible spells and uses a required-character-level limit. Compare the supported gem’s requirement with the trigger’s limit, not just the two gem-level numbers. Item-granted supports can alter the setup too.

Use the checker for the selected gems, then read any restriction that remains unverified. A base skill-type match is not a complete build simulation. Cooldown, damage threshold, costs, multiple triggers and special item effects can still prevent the expected result.
